Yritysideasta liiketoimintasuunnitelmaksi : Case: JoSil Design
Yritys on suunniteltu perustettavaksi aikaisintaan vuonna 2014.
Yrityksellä on kohtuulliset mahdollisuudet
menestyä tavoitteidensa mukaisesti. The purpose of this thesis was to study starting up entrepreneurship, forming a business idea and developing it into a business plan and to create a functional business plan for the author’s own company, which designs, manufactures and sells handmade accessory jewellery and small interior items. The plan is to set up the company at the earliest in year
2014.
The business plan introduces basic company information, planned way of functioning and the objectives and the means of entrepreneurship. The business plan was created by developing the entrepreneurship idea originated from a hobby into a suitable business idea, by drawing up a marketing plan, foundation calculations and a financing plan. The business plan was finalized with SWOT- and risk analysis, action plan and schedule.
The source material used for the theoretical frame included professional literature related to entrepreneurship, business planning and company establishment and electronic sources. The market and competitor analysis and the financial calculations were based on the information available on the internet. The readiness for entrepreneurship and the characteristics of the author were evaluated with Finnvera’s entrepreneurship test and with a questionnaire survey.
The author will exploit this thesis when founding the company. The financing calculations are to be updated at that time. The company will be founded as a private company name and it will mainly operate as a web shop. The company is aiming to remain small but profitable rather than aiming for extensive growth or big income. The company has reasonable chances to succeed according to its objectives
Prompting AI Art: An Investigation into the Creative Skill of Prompt Engineering
Humankind is entering a novel era of creativity - an era in which anybody can
synthesize digital content. The paradigm under which this revolution takes
place is prompt-based learning (or in-context learning). This paradigm has
found fruitful application in text-to-image generation where it is being used
to synthesize digital images from zero-shot text prompts in natural language
for the purpose of creating AI art. This activity is referred to as prompt
engineering - the practice of iteratively crafting prompts to generate and
improve images. In this paper, we investigate prompt engineering as a novel
creative skill for creating prompt-based art. In three studies with
participants recruited from a crowdsourcing platform, we explore whether
untrained participants could 1) recognize the quality of prompts, 2) write
prompts, and 3) improve their prompts. Our results indicate that participants
could assess the quality of prompts and respective images. This ability
increased with the participants' experience and interest in art. Participants
further were able to write prompts in rich descriptive language. However, even
though participants were specifically instructed to generate artworks,
participants' prompts were missing the specific vocabulary needed to apply a
certain style to the generated images. Our results suggest that prompt
engineering is a learned skill that requires expertise and practice. Based on
our findings and experience with running our studies with participants
recruited from a crowdsourcing platform, we provide ten recommendations for
conducting experimental research on text-to-image generation and prompt
engineering with a paid crowd. Our studies offer a deeper understanding of
prompt engineering thereby opening up avenues for research on the future of
prompt engineering. We conclude by speculating on four possible futures of
prompt engineering.Comment: 29 pages, 10 figure
Perceptions and Realities of Text-to-Image Generation
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a widely popular technology that
will have a profound impact on society and individuals. Less than a decade ago,
it was thought that creative work would be among the last to be automated - yet
today, we see AI encroaching on many creative domains. In this paper, we
present the findings of a survey study on people's perceptions of text-to-image
generation. We touch on participants' technical understanding of the emerging
technology, their fears and concerns, and thoughts about risks and dangers of
text-to-image generation to the individual and society. We find that while
participants were aware of the risks and dangers associated with the
technology, only few participants considered the technology to be a personal
risk. The risks for others were more easy to recognize for participants.
Artists were particularly seen at risk. Interestingly, participants who had
tried the technology rated its future importance lower than those who had not
tried it. This result shows that many people are still oblivious of the
potential personal risks of generative artificial intelligence and the
impending societal changes associated with this technology.Comment: ACM Academic Mindtrek 202

Postikyselyn otos (n= 8 000) poimittiin väestötietojärjestelmästä satunnaisotannalla 18–79-vuotiaista suomalaisista. Verkkokyselyn otos (n= 8 987) muodostui Taloustutkimus Oy:n verkkopaneeliin kuuluvista 18–79-vuotiaista suomalaisista. Aineistot on kerätty identtisillä kyselylomakkeilla. Aineistoja voidaan käyttää tutkimuksessa erillisinä tai yhdistettynä.
Aineistojen edustavuutta tarkasteltiin vertaamalla aineistojen jakaumia vuoden 2016–2017 väestöjakaumiin.
Compact NMR relaxometry of human blood and blood components
Nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry is a uniquely practical and versatile implementation of NMR technology. Because it does not depend on chemical shift resolution, it can be performed using low- field compact instruments deployed in atypical settings. Early relaxometry studies of human blood were focused on developing a diagnostic test for cancer. Those efforts were misplaced, as the measurements were not specific to cancer. However, important lessons were learned about the factors that drive the water longitudinal (T1) and transverse (T2) relaxation times. One key factor is the overall distribution of proteins and lipoproteins. Plasma water T2 can detect shifts in the blood proteome resulting from in- flammation, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. In whole blood, T2 is sensitive to hemoglobin content and oxygenation, although the latter can be suppressed by manipulating the static and applied magnet- ic fields. Current applications of compact NMR relaxometry include blood tests for candidiasis, hemostasis, malaria and insulin resistance
Interactionist Approach to Visual Aesthetics in HCI
Visual Aesthetics has gathered interest among scholars in HCI research. The growing interest stems from examinations of the aesthetic-usability effect (“what is beautiful is usable”), and possibly vice versa. Thus, numerous studies focus on understanding how we make sense and experience visual entities in interacting with technology. However, theoretical, and methodological stances vary, which impact conclusions of the studies conducted, and thus, affect design implications. Visual experience research in HCI lacks detailed conceptualizations of the constituents of visual experience and understanding of how these conceptualizations affect the overall research results through implicit methodological stances taken. In this paper, an overview of methodological stances to visual aesthetics in HCI research is presented and an interactionist approach is discussed which combines objectivist and subjectivist methodological stances and enriches our understanding of current research of visual aesthetics in HCI. In addition, methodological grounds of interactionism are described and extended from cognitive processing fluency paradigm to take into account the overall complexity of visual experience. Moreover, conceptualization of visual experience from cognitive-affective perspective in line with interactionism is discussed, following with metodical considerations of interactionism, and issues related to the role of visual stimuli in examining visual aesthetics in HCI.peerReviewe
Towards Essential Visual Variables in User Interface Design
This paper focuses on visual variables in user interface design from the user perspective. Visual design of user interfaces is essential to users interacting with different software. The study is conducted with 3E-templates for users to express their impressions by writing and drawing regarding visual website design. The data is analyzed with qualitative content analysis through interpretation framework. The results of this study provide new insights into user-centered visual user interface design. The results indicate which are the most essential visual variables in user interface design and therefore should be emphasized in user-centered design that promotes positive UX and, thus, benefit user-centered visual UI design. The results of this study are beneficial for researchers in the field of visual aesthetics in human-computer interaction and to user interface designers.peerReviewe
Apperceiving visual elements in human-technology interaction design
Visual design of technological artefacts is an integral part of peoples’
experiences in technology-interaction. Visual product properties are capable of
eliciting affective responses and multisensorial experiences in human-
technology interaction. Current research in the field of human-technology
interaction focuses on visual, emotional and multisensory aspects of interaction
in addition to functionality and usability. However, the focus has not been on
how performative aspects of visual elements affect technology-interaction as a
cognitive sense making process shaping human experiences. To design
technological contact points to be made sense of, the substance of visual
representations requires clarification to conduct argument-based technology-
design, and to base design solutions on scientific results. Therefore, research is
required to explicate what visual experience is in human-technology interaction,
how its constituent factors and underlying dynamics can be studied, and how
to design with this research-based knowledge.
In this thesis, visual elements contributing to cognitive and affective
processes of visual experience in human-technology interaction are examined
from an interactionist perspective. The focus is on the role of visual elements in
visual usability, aesthetic appeal and emotional aspects in experiencing
technological artefacts and to explicate visual experience in appraising visual
stimuli via apperception. The explication of visual experience as a cognitive-
affective process contributes fundamentally to how visual representations of
technological artefacts are made sense of and experienced, and thus, provides a
basis for argument-based visual technology-design. As a result of an
interactionist approach in examining visual element appraisals in human-
technology interaction, a theoretical framework is presented. The framework
integrates different dimensions of visual experience with interactionist
methodological position and functions as a basis for argument-based visual
design. The constituent dimensions of visual experience are visual usability and
aesthetic appeal, which are the concepts with which visual experiences are
studied and explicated in detail as operationalised in the experiments presented
in the seven attached articles. The framework of visual experience can be
utilised as a discourse tool in research and design of visual technological
designs, and as an explanatory framework for argument-based visual design
